Jim Huffman

Jim has had a variety of experiences, as an engineer, lawyer and consultant. Prior to founding Huffman Law Group (at the request of a new client), Jim served as the first Director of Intellectual Property for Dell Computer Corporation. While at Dell, he designed and implemented a patent process that generated 100’s of invention disclosures per year, and resulted in royalty-free cross licenses with IBM and TI. Since leaving Dell (1995), Jim has acted as a defacto inhouse IP counsel for dozens of high technology startups, as well primary outside IP counsel for dozens more. His dedication to finding the best representation, for placing the clients needs (technical, legal and financial) first, and developing state of the art administration and back office systems, places Huffman Law Group as one of a very few estimable boutique patent law firms.

Alan Davis

Alan specializes in patent procurement and counseling. His patent prosecution is focused in the electrical and software arts, particularly in the areas of telecommunications, microprocessor design, computer system architecture design, mass storage subsystem design, and audio system design including amplifiers, CODECs and noise cancellation. Alan has over 23 years experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications in these areas. In his previous 10-year career as an electrical engineer at Bell Laboratories and Dell Computer Corporation, Alan designed and developed mass storage subsystems and system software. He is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and Texas State Courts. He is the principal at the Law Office of Alan Davis in Austin, Texas.

Gary Stanford

Gary specializes in intellectual property with an emphasis in patent prosecution and counseling in the electrical arts, including network communications, analog circuitry, power systems including switching regulators, integrated circuits, microprocessor-based systems, and computer software. Gary gained experience while working as an electrical engineer and began his patent law career in as a patent attorney in 1990. During his legal career, Gary has worked for smaller patent firms and larger, general practice firms, including working as a sole practitioner and founding the law firm of Stanford and Bennett. He is now a patent attorney with Huffman Law Group which he joined in 2009. Gary has extensive patent prosecution experience and has written and prosecuted several hundreds of patent applications to issuance. During his ongoing practice, Gary continues to serve and counsel many diverse clients from startups to large corporations.

Eric Cernyar BS, Electrical Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology JD, University of Texas School of Law Eric specializes in patent prosecution in the electrical, software, mechanical, and medical device arts. Eric has also argued Markman hearings in patent infringement cases and presented appeals to the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, the Federal Circuit, and the Fifth Circuit. In 2004, Eric was named a “Texas Rising Star” in “Intellectual Property Law” by the Texas Monthly and Super Lawyers magazines. Between 1997 and 1999, Eric was a briefing attorney for two Texas Supreme Court justices—Justice Raul Gonzales and Alberto Gonzales, the latter of whom became Attorney General under President George W. Bush. At the University of Texas School of Law, Eric was a member of the Texas Law Review, a Chancellor, and the Order of the Coif. Eric is admitted to practice in Texas and Colorado and before the United States Supreme Court, the Federal Circuit, the Fifth Circuit, the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the United States District Courts for the Western, Eastern, and Southern Districts of Texas.
